PROJECT

Beginning as a pandemic-era side-hustle in my parents’ basement, Conscious Suds operated with the idea that business can act as a force for good in the world—especially when it allows customers to support initiatives like fair trade and organic agriculture.

PROCESS

As part of this adventure, I collaborated with some creative friends to research our target audience, develop a product, and build a brand from the ground up. We started by just developing a product we could be proud of—a humble bar of soap with simple, organic ingredients.

From there, we worked back and forth to develop a brand that reflected the cleanliness and simplicity of our product.

CHALLENGES

Every step along the way—from developing a product to shipping it out the door—proved challenging with Conscious Suds. But I like a good challenge. They give us the opportunity to grow and learn. However, I think the financial piece of it all challenged me most.

Creating a brand, marketing it on social, and working with a team of creatives comes pretty naturally to me. Keeping the books…that required a bit more of a stretch.

But facing this challenge gave me a very real understanding of the connection between marketing goals and business goals. And as hard as it was, I’m grateful I got a taste for every aspect of owning and running a business.

RESULTS

Through a combination of social media content marketing and good ol’ word of mouth, we brought in thousands of dollars in revenue through our online store—not bad for a pop-up shop.
